Organizations don’t choose whether or not to ask questions. People do. The behavior of an organization is the sum of the actions of the people in it. If you are a member of an organization, and you ask ‘how do we prevent this from happening again?’ Guess what? The organization just learned how to ask that question.
Now it just needs to learn how to answer it, and act on the answer.. but step one seems solvable.

I would not say the hiring has been highly competitive (certainly not FAANG level) but the number of jobs are low because they are small. The tech was not cutting edge.
If it's surprisingly raining you would not bring umbrella anyway and left it in tour accommodation (but you can make simple cheap rain jacket from big plastic bag or trash bag, just tear holes for your neck and arms), so packing things you won't most likely need is useful only for the way to/from airport, while you are at destination there is not much use in things left in the room when the weather suddenly changes or suddenly you need to replace something broken kilometres away from accommodation.
I was hiking through the Malaysian jungle (Tanah Rata, jungle trail maybe 9/9A) in flip-flops (pretty standard in SEA also for hiking in mountains) and one of my flipflop broke, guess how helpful would be knowing I have spare shoes in my accommodation? Tried to fix it will some local plants - didn't work, so had to finish hike slowly until reaching at least unpaved road (ofc it broke in the most overgrown part, maybe made wrong turn), later paved road where I could walk barefoot and hitchhike back to town where I stayed to buy new flipflops (btw. my long-term advice, don't ever buy flipflops for outdoors, they always break (at the worst moment), slides (slippers, whatever you call them) are much more reliable).

Me I wouldn't, I have a small and lightweight rain cover that fits allmost everywhere.

And I love to travle light and being barefeet, but I really would not recommend hiking in Flip Flops. I like protecting my feet from leeches and more importantly snakes, scorpions, spiders, thorny bushes and small holes where you can hurt your angles.

depends where you are and where you go, no such thing in cameron highlands trails, it is quite high and cold, I've met with leeches only in Thai jungle (while on trail), same with scorpions only on some small Thai island unpaved road, most of the time I try to follow some trails if I won't get lost, there are various kinds of jungle, the most dangerous thing I've met on some trail was probably some pretty big monitor lizard
But you will have a much better idea what to buy, when you have first-hand experience with the weather and are surrounded by locals who are adequately prepared.
I seem to be hard on my devices. They get nicked, scratched screens, battery worn. I am wealthy enough that this expense is not particularly impactful to my financial goals. So, I upgrade yearly. I am seriously considering not going that way this year.
Most years the camera improves enough to be worth it for me and I have a few different people my hand-me-down phones go to so it averages to 1 new phone every 4 years for the group.

Meanwhile in a pig butchering scam you have emotionally desperate people (who often would go for figurative scraps) being fed fake romance before being slaughtered (having a lot of money extracted from them, which usually ends in the end of the fake relationship as results don't materialize for the victim, e.g. the lover not showing up)
Because when you buy a live pig, you don't just slaughter and eat it right away, you have to fatten it up over a period of time and then you slaughter it and have a feast. A typical scam is more like fishing, where you catch a fish and then eat it right away. Pig butchering requires a prolonged relationship with the victim to get a higher payout for more work.

I too am a GrapheneOS Pixel 8 user. However, I am starting to realise even a screen this large is a huge source of distraction and dopamine fracking that I don't have the time or desire for in my life. So I'm looking at these even dumber options. I just want my calendar and email, and maybe Signal. No web browser or socials.
I know it isn't FOSS, but I just plug a $500 Mac mini into my LG TV and use it with a wireless backlit keyboard/trackpad combo I got for $35 off the zon. IINA is a fantastic player. I rarely use the tv os.
