>Just turn notifications off. Just don't look at twitter/Facebook/tiktok. It's not hard to just not use the brain rot stuff. I get it you are addicted - I guess just be thankful it's not alcohol or cigarettes. Get help for your addiction.

That part is precisely the problem. "Just get help for your addiction" is not how anything works.

It's incredibly hard for an addict to stop using the brain rot stuff. A lot of very smart people make a lot of money making it as hard as possible.

Yep no one said it would be easy. It's hard for a smoker or drinker to get over their addiction too.

That's why you need help.

But you don't need to eliminate all forms of fermentation or combustion from your life to get over an alcohol or cigarette addiction. You don't need to eliminate all screens from your life to get over your tiktok addiction.

If you are a recovering alcoholic, not going into or near a liquor store sounds like a solid strategy…

> no one said it would be easy

You literally said “It's not hard”

The company is in the US and in the current political climate, it can absolutely do whatever it wants as long as it pays off a couple of people.

Arguably, and not to offend you, it is those very people who have significant ownership stakes and funding in (Not)openAI.

It's not like the people with more resources than in any time in human history aren't investing in and wanting AI to succeed for their selfish reasons to grow their own resources and influence more. So, yes, it can "do whatever it wants" as long as most people remain weak, subservient, and disempowered to hold accountable those who keep making these decisions negatively shaping the majority's world.

By the time 'most' people wake up and unite, it will be too late.

you exclude yourself from the possibility space of people who can act and do anything becasue you resign. so be it- that's your choice. create that reality you desire.

I refuse that reality though, and I accept that a majority including I will unite. Good luck to you.

One person really.

as long as Sam paid his Mar-a-Lago dues, this is all fine

Tips are optional everywhere, but the reactions to not receiving one will be different.

You discovered that you have an allergy.

Not exactly the same thing.

plus all available evidence suggests that allergies are getting worse due to changes in biodiversity.

the only plants that survive these days are the ones that spam a ton of pollen, so it gets selected for aggressively.

The fraud is the point with this administration.

Who has time to talk about billions in emoluments and pumping+dumping the American Economy to insider trade war news when we are subject to such calamitous fraud as a wet-behind-the-ears PhD getting overly enthusiastic in their grant proposal?

Well, you see, under the current administration, everything is allowed.

So you didn't have to patch all of them.

No, but if you don't patch them you need to convince an auditor that they are not a problem. Often patching is easier.

I'm working on such a problem now - we are using an old web browser (no longer supported) to show help on one system. That is web pages were generate internally, with no links elsewhere, and no provision for the user to enter a URL. It is still easier port to a newer supported browser than to convince the auditors that that we are not exploitable. Sure it is obvious that everything is internal and we won't write html that exploits bugs, but nobody wants to convince an auditor of that.

It doesn't even take being in a "third world country".

Plenty of US websites are blocking access from EU IP addresses because of our data protection laws.

Local news companies are the biggest offenders in this regard.

>But anytime I transit a country USA or any thing I fully expect to have zero rights

That is so sad, man. How is this normal for you?

Its just how the world works. Countries protect their own citizens, even from each other.

Obviously that's preferable. What if they don't?
