It always was far easier to train a creative thinker in how to operate the tools needed to facilitate their vision than it is to get a great tools operator to have good ideas.
Classic indie games such as Undertale/Deltarune, Terraria and VVVVVV had horrible code but it didn't matter because they were actually good games, and that's because their creators spent all their character points on making a good game instead of obsessing over monads.

Yeah it's very funny that this article is talking about Flash, a tool that let semi-technical non-programmers cook up insane websites (hey, that sounds familiar!).
This is exactly why I think this article is wrong: it starts with a false premise that devs are sane to begin with (not because you're right or wrong re hand washing but because this is an insane thing to focus on from the article).

Corporate structures are things you know about if you follow tech news, but people mostly do not know about them otherwise. They've never heard of "Alphabet" either. Stuff like that.

Verilog is not a programming language (because FPGAs are not programmed) it's a hardware description language. It's also very lossy (every vendor has reams of coding guides for using it just right with their synthetizer).
Well c does look much like the hardware of a PDP11 and verilog LUTs look like FPGA hardware. But my wife (a. CS prof) says the same: programming is what programmers do.
