"I can't pay my mortgage because I lost my job"
That's a real problem. Solution: Who will pay that mortgage? For how long?
My church, friends, possibly in-laws would pay my mortgage for about 3-6 months but after that the help runs out because the REAL problem is those 3-6 months of not looking hard enough, not taking any job, not down sizing, not moving into someone's garage, not spending beyond the budget.
No property on earth is equal to that of a human life. Want to lower property crime? Decrease wealth inequality. It's amazing to me how people who make far more than the average person get so worked up over property crime. I can afford to replace anything of mine that's stolen, it's literally not that big of a deal.
A man has a car. It is stolen. He has insurance, sure. Insurance for others, along with the owner, now go up. That insurance will not pay for the time and energy lost in getting a rental, nor the time and energy loss in reporting the crime. The car is replaced, with what? Hopefully not the one stolen because it is now tainted by damage, ill will, poor operations.
His newer car, which was replaced, now sits and is at once again an object that the previous thief can steal again, and again, and again.
The cycle repeats. The thief, if caught, does not restore the car owner or is even owed compensation. The thief pays in time served, the thief's expenses are paid for by the car owner, through taxes, and the cycle repeats.
End the cycle. End the thief. The value of the human life is set by the thief, not the owner.
The value of human life is non negotiable. Funny to use a car which is one of the worst possible parts of US culture as an example. You solve this problem with public transit and building non-nightmarish, walk-able cities.
Closed loop systems consume like 40% more power, and aren’t recycled - they’re filled with refrigerant. We’re talking in the southwest where the river is running dry, most power plants are natural gas plants and they use water for cooling (not closed loop, evaporative).
So you’ve turned on several cities worth of power plants, with the water consumption to boot, not even to fucking mention carbon costs, for your closed loop system, that you can’t just drain you have to treat it and it still evaps and needs more.

I have had the privilege of growing up very poor while working for and being around the rich and wealthy.
I grew up in a 700sqft home and now own a 1400sqft house and my friend is building a custom 4000sqft house. They both feel 'small' for different reasons.
The very rich I know have 2 or 3 homes, each >3000sqft.
The most wealthy people I know have a modest house on as many acres as they can get because no neighbors and gardens and horses and tractors are where the life is at.
The fish bowl theory is we grow to our environment. Look at the billionaires and their yachts, it is never enough.
Contentment must be learned. I am beyond content now while I could afford a house 2x the size.
Every culture has a different understanding of what is reasonable. Cultures shift with demographic changes. It is reasonable to behave one way in one culture and not another. Your peers are no longer your peers.
I am curious about the corporate disconnect from the frontline to the generals.
While the company I am in is embracing AI the disconnect and delay between what is available and possible versus what is approved and permitted is a three month window. The State employees I speak to are just now getting around to writing their usage policies for internal AI usage.
Same here. For every little use of AI we have to fill out a 3 page proposal to get a PoC for 3 weeks in copilot studio (the worst AI builder around but due to MS lobby the others are banned). Then we have to find a business sponsor to decide it's useful, find 2 financial controllers to underwrite its token cost (even if very little), go through rounds of lifecycle and governance approvals. Then we can move to preprod but nooo we're not there yet. Now comes the security review and DPIA. That's another hugely complicated process that takes months. Eventually when both are done we can go the the deployment team and go through their process which I haven't even seen yet because most of our projects got cut off beforehand.
All the while the top of the company is of course praising AI and saying we should do everything with it right away.
It's a joke really. We had to go through all this rigmarole just for an agent that does some preliminaries on a service support ticket (making sure all data was filled in correctly and contacting the requester of not) before sending it to a human for final review. It couldn't action anything, not a single thing. Just assist with the prerequisites.
And yet they call our company 'innovative'. We're certainly innovative at inventing bureaucracy.
Removing people with whom the group with the power of the sword is exactly what happens. Religion A does not like Religion B which eventually leads to laws, wars, genocide.
Most of these inside thoughts are not well accepted in a diverse, multicultural, professional setting so they go unspoken.
I would also argue that the desire to remove 'them' is universal because of safety or desire. I think we disagree on the criteria which is really where the factions start their battle. Do we use criteria based upon belief, genetics, or agency?
